Description

The medieval bridal Gown Matilda is a recreation of the the gowns worn by woman of the early middle ages around 1000 AD. It is three parts: a long tunic (cotte), the knee-length overtunic (surcot) and the girdle.

Matilda of Flanders (ca. 1032-1083) was the wife of William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandie and first norman King of England. Matilda reigned the Normandie while William was in England.

-----------------------------------------------------------
The Cotte is made from soft cotton in pure white. It is cut after the fashion in a simple A-Line with tight sleeves reaching below the wrist.Neckline, sleeves and hem are decorated with silver and white trim.

The Surcot is made from a soft cream cotton. The cotton is a bit thicker and looks like a fine wool fabric. The Surcot is slightly cut to fit but still has the basic A-shape. The wide sleeves reach below the knee. Just like the Cotte the Surcot is decorated with silver-white trim along the square neckline and the sleeves. The Surcot has a silver handmade embroidery with a small silver metall ornament beneath the neckline.

The gown is fitted with a girdle from the same trim as was used for Cotte and Surcot. The girdle is long enough to wear it in different styles according to the fashion of the early middle ages.

As the gown is fitted with the girdle, it will work for many sizes, reaching from S up to L or even XL. It will look beautiful for maternity as well. The front lenght of the Cotte is 150cm.
